Judging & Awards
COLLEGE AWARDS
A committee comprised of faculty representatives from the college will select first-place winners from each department. Depending on the number of posters submitted in each department, they may also select second-, third-, and fourth-place winners. The criteria for evaluating the posters are as follows:
- Quality of Research
- Overall Poster Clarity
- Visual Appeal
- Student Knowledge (mainly evaluated via video)
Award amounts are as follows, to be split among any co-investigators listed on the poster:
- 1st place $300
- 2nd place $200 (if warranted)
- 3rd place $100 (if warranted)
- 4th place $50 (if warranted)
After the poster submission deadline, the judges will be given access to review all posters, abstracts, and videos digitally. They will make their final decisions after viewing the posters, abstracts, and videos submitted.
All posters entered in the conference are also eligible for awards from three college centers and the college Diversity, Collaboration and Inclusion committee. Each of them have different criteria and areas of focus. A committee comprised of faculty representatives will evaluate awards for each center.
WESTERN STUDIES AWARDS
The Charles Redd Center for Western Studies, an interdisciplinary center in the College, offers prizes for the best posters dealing with the Intermountain West/Mountain West (defined as the states of Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Arizona). Entries from any discipline in the College will be considered as long as there is some focus on the Redd Center's study area. The Redd Center judges will look for how well the research relates to the states listed, the quality of research, presentation of the information, and original ideas.
CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AWARDS
The Office of Civic Engagement Leadership, an interdisciplinary unit in the College dedicated to helping students become leaders in their communities and change agents in the world, will award prizes for those research posters that address civic engagement by individuals, groups, or organizations, such as volunteering, community action, advocacy, political participation, etc. Judges will look for originality, quality of research, and clear presentation.
GERONTOLOGY AWARDS
The Gerontology program will also have cash awards for those research posters that address issues related to aging and the elderly.
DIVERSITY, COLLABORATION, AND INCLUSION AWARDS
The Diversity, Collaboration, and Inclusion Award is meant to highlight work exploring the experiences of underrepresented groups. This research could focus on diversity specifically, inclusion, or the experiences of underrepresented groups more generally.
