Bombs, Busts, and Babies: How National and Economic Insecurity Influence Attitudes toward Childbearing in Taiwan
Abstract
Online survey experiment that evaluates how different security concerns affect opinions about birthrates. Our treatments were military concern, economic concern, demographic concern, or information about pro-natalist policies. Individuals showed increased support for childbearing when there were personal benefits to childbearing instead of solely national benefits.
