- Linguistic Bonding: Heritage Language Use and Parent-Child Closeness in Immigrant Families
- Abstract
- Language connects people. I predict immigrants’ children who speak the heritage language experience greater parent-child closeness, and parent English skill moderates. I found language use decreases closeness. Despite no moderating effect, increased English skill increases closeness. Findings highlight the importance of resources like English classes for immigrant families’ wellbeing.
