Poster Title
Shades of Belonging: The Intersection of Race and Religion in Shaping Utah Immigrants’ Integration
Abstract
Utilizing interviews with immigrants in Utah, we find that race and LDS membership influence immigrants’ social integration, creating a hierarchy of belonging––with White LDS immigrants reporting the most integration and non-White, non-LDS immigrants reporting the least. Efforts to increase belonging should include dismantling structural inequalities and changing cultural narratives.
