Internship Grants
Students wishing to complete an internship may apply for an internship grant funded through the Marjorie Pay
Hinckley Endowed Chair in the Social Work and the Social Sciences and the Mary Lou Fulton Chair in the College
of Family, Home and Social Science. Individual grants up to $1,600 are available each academic semester, i.e.
fall, winter, and spring-summer. These are competitive awards based on financial need, the quality of the
internship, and the degree to which the internship helps support the applicant’s academic and career goals.
Both current undergraduate and graduate students who are declared majors in one of the disciplines in the College
of Family, Home and Social Sciences or in International Relations may apply. Items listed below are things that
need to be done for your internship grant.
Application Deadlines
Fall semester internship - August 1
Winter semester internship - December 1
Spring-Summer internship - April 1
Required Application Materials
Internship
Applicants may be considered for the grant without an internship offer having been confirmed. However, you must
meet with the department internship coordinator and apply for or fill out a contract for an internship before you
can apply for an internship grant.
Online Grant Application
Please fill out and submit an
online grant application. An email confirmation will be sent, once your application
has been received. Hint: please copy and paste your answers into another document in-case an error occurs.
Internship Coordinator Statement
The internship coordinator statement answers the following questions.
- How well does the internship support the student's career goals.
- Please rate the quality of the internship experience for the student.
- Please rate the quality of the student.
Choosing the Correct Internship Coordinator
The online application contains a dropdown box with the name and email address of each of the college's internship
coordinators. Please select the appropriate coordinator. Submitting your application generates an automatic email
which contains a link for the internship coordinator to supply the statement.
If you are awarded an Internship Grant
The funds will be credited to your account with the University at the beginning of the term. You must complete the
internship designated on the grant application that you submitted to the College. You must be enrolled for
internship credit during the period of the internship. Please take photos during the internship as appropriate;
these photos may include you at your internship, you and your co-workers engaged in the work and the location of the
internship. At the very least we need a digital photo of you.
At the conclusion of the internship you must
submit a report online. Please return to the internship application
login page and it will direct you to the following questions and a place for you to upload photos.
- What were your major responsibilities at your internship?
- How did the experience affect you personally, and what did you learn?
- How will the project help you academically in relation to future academic endeavors?
- How did the experience affect you professionally, and how will the experience help you in your professional
pursuits?
