Internship Grants
Students wishing to complete an internship may apply for an internship grant funded through the Mary Lou Fulton Chair in the College of Family, Home and Social Sciences and the Marjorie Pay Hinckley Endowed Chair in the Social Work and the Social Sciences. Individual grants up to $1,600 are available each academic semester, i.e. fall, winter, and spring-summer. These are competitive awards based on financial need, the quality of the internship, and the degree to which the internship helps support the applicant’s academic and career goals. Both current undergraduate and graduate students who are declared majors in one of the disciplines in the College of Family, Home and Social Sciences may apply.
Required Application Materials
Internship
Applicants may be considered for the grant without an internship offer having been confirmed. However, you must meet with the department internship coordinator and apply for or fill out a contract for an internship before you can apply for an internship grant.
Internship Coordinator Statement
The internship coordinator statement answers the following questions.
- Describe the nature of the internship including duties likely to be performed by the student.
- To what extent do you support the student’s decision to complete this internship?
- How essential to completing the student’s degree requirements is this proposed internship, and why?
- What amount of internship credit and in what course do you expect the student will register for during the internship.
- Please confirm that the internship has been secured. If the student has not been accepted for the internship please verify that the student has submitted an application.
Choosing the Correct Internship Coordinator
The internship coordinator is found in the department that gives academic credit for the internship. The application contains a drop down box to select the department where the internship is located, once you have selected the department the internship coordinator email will automatically fill into a box below. Submitting your application generates an automatic email to the internship coordinator for their statement. Once the statement has been received, you will receive a confirmation email. (If your internship coordinator email is not listed please do not submit your application. Contact kim_gibson@byu.edu for more information.)
